April 2009 saw the start of a new and exciting Marinelife project. The Channel Marine Mammal and Seabird Survey is part of the wider Interreg EU-funded CHARM III project through which Marinelife and 16 English and French research organisations are compiling data in order to digitally map marine biodiversity, the various different species of marine mammals, fish, birds, plankton, etc, in the western English Channel. Our research routes include Brittany Ferries Plymouth-Roscoff, Poole-Santander, Stenaline's Fleetwood-Larne, DFDS' Rosyth-Zeebrugge and Norfolkline's Felixstowe-Vlaardingen, monthly survey reports are being posted on the Marinelife news page, these all contribute to the Atlantic Research Coalition's network of survey routes. Other research currently includes supporting several PhD research projects, monitoring of coastal animal movements off Northumberland. We have arranged a number of trips to watch Whales, Dolphins and other Marine Wildlife, in and around the Bay of Biscay as well as to other recognised marine life hotspots around the world including the Maldive Islands, Seychelles and Azores.
